অধ্যাপক রতনলাল ব্রহ্মচারী (ডি.এস.সি. সাম্মানিক, কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়), প্রাক্তন অধ্যাপক, বায়োলজি ডিভিশন, ইন্ডিয়ান স্ট্যাটিস্টিক্যাল ইনস্টিটিউট, কলকাতা) অমেরুদণ্ডী প্রাণীর মলিক্যুলার এমব্রায়োলজী থেকে শুরু করে পার্বত্য গোরিলার খাদ্যাভ্যাস, জীব বিজ্ঞানের এরকম বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে গবেষণা করেছেন। ৫০ বছরেরও বেশী সময় ধরে তাঁর গবেষণার প্রধান বিষয় ছিল বাঘ এবং সমগোত্রীয় প্রাণীদের ফেরোমোন। এদেশে অ্যানিম্যাল বিহেভিয়ার বা প্রাণীদের আচরণ নিয়ে গবেষণা শুরু হওয়ার বহু আগে থেকেই উনি এই বিষয় চর্চায় উৎসাহী ছিলেন। ভূমধ্যসাগরীয় এবং আন্দামান দ্বীপপুঞ্জে গবেষণার অভিজ্ঞতাও তিনি সঞ্চয় করেছেন।
