Introduction to finite elements in engineering/ Tirupathi R. Chandrupatla, Ashok D. Belegundu.

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: New Delhi : Prentice Hall of India, 1996Description: xiv ,416 pages; dig.; 24 cmISBN:
  • 8120306821
Subject(s): DDC classification:
  • 620.00151825 C456
Contents:
Fundamental concepts -- Matrix algebra and gaussian elimination -- One-dimensional problems -- Trusses -- Two-Dimensional problems using constant strain triangles -- Axisymmetric solids subjected to axisymmetric loading -- , Two-Dimensional isoparametric elements and numerical integration -- Beams and frames -- Three-Dimensional problems in stress analysis -- Scalar field problems -- Dynamic considerations -- Preprocessing and postprocessing
Summary: The finite element method has become a powerful tool for the numerical solution of a wide range of engineering problems having an enormous range of applications. Furthermore, with the rapid advances in computer technology and CAD systems, complex problems can be modelled with relative ease and several configurations can be tried out on a computer before a prototype is build. This books keeps pace with these developments by integrating basic theory, modelling techniques and computational aspects of the finite elements method. In this method of analysis, a complex region defining a continuum is discretized into simple geometric shapes called finite elements.
